Nic Rudnick, CEO
Nic became Liquid Telecom CEO in 2004, when the company rebranded from Econet Satellite Services, and has played a lead role in the creation of our Pan-African network, which now stretches over 40,000km. He has been listed in Global Telecom Business Magazine's 100 most influential people in the telecommunications industry for the last three consecutive years – highlighting his dedication to building Africa's digital future.
Nic is a well-recognised entrepreneur and legal expert within the industry. He played a key role in the internationally recognised landmark constitutional cases resulting in end of the monopoly over fixed and mobile line telecommunication services in Zimbabwe, and remains a strong advocate of recognising access to telecommunications as a human right and promoting open access to telecommunications and the Internet across Africa.
Wellington Makamure, Group Executive, Southern Africa
Wellington joined Liquid Telecom in February 2009. He is responsible for the leadership, strategic and operations management of Liquid Zimbabwe. He sits on the board of directors of CEC Liquid Zambia. He has worked in telecommunications in both the UK and Africa for more than 21 years in both technical and executive management. He is a keen 12-handicap golfer and loves football – he's an ardent Manchester United supporter and loves to travel all over the world.
Sam Nkusi, Group Executive, East Africa
Sam Nkusi is a former Cabinet Minister for Infrastructure in Charge of Energy and ICT in the Republic of Rwanda and was active in formulating ICT, Regulatory and Energy national policies. He was involved in several African and global Infrastructure initiatives including dealing with stakeholders, development partners and related funding entities. Sam holds a Masters Degree in engineering from Canada and is professional Engineer with over 30 years progressive executive management in Utilities and the Telecom Industry in Africa and North America. He has served previously on several boards including Rwandatel, MTN and Altech East Africa and local power utilities.
Sam currently serves as Group Executive, East Africa for Liquid Telecom Group and is the Liquid Sea Overseer as well as Chairman for Liquid Telecom Rwanda and Liquid Telecom Kenya.
Ben Roberts, CTO
Ben became CTO at Liquid in 2006, joining from the Econet group. He has been responsible for network and product strategy as Liquid's fibre network has expanded. With over seven years' experience of VoIP technologies and eight years' of satellite data networks in a design, operations and support capacity.
Ben is the perfect person to be in charge of our technology. He is currently CEO of Liquid Telecom Kenya, living in Nairobi.
Kate Hennessy, CFO
Kate joined Liquid in September 2007 and is responsible for the Group's finances. She is a Chartered Accountant of South Africa and performed her articles with KPMG in South Africa after gaining a Business Science Honours degree at the University of Cape Town.
She has several years' post-qualification experience in the telecoms sector in the UK. She was born in the UK but spent 11 years living in South Africa before returning.
Malvin Meyer, Group Managing Executive
Malvin has been with Liquid Telecom since 2008 as Group Managing Executive. He is responsible for all commercial aspects of our wholesale voice business in the group.
He has been in the telecommunications industry for 37 years, which covers infrastructure planning, switch deployment and commissioning, corporate account management and managing international carrier relationships/business.
He lives in Cape Town, South Africa. When he finds the time over a weekend, Malvin enjoys the odd game of golf and the restoration of classic and vintage cars.
Mark Chetwynd, Chief Strategy & Financial Reporting Officer
Mark joined Liquid Telecom in July 2013 and is responsible for the Group's financial strategy and reporting. Mark qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK in 1998 and since qualifying has worked in the US in the oil and mining sector and most recently in telecoms. Prior to joining Liquid, he was CFO for over seven years at Gateway Communications guiding the company through its acquisition by Vodacom and subsequent sale to PCCW Global. Mark lives in London.
David Behr, Chief Product Officer
David is a leading internet pioneer and entrepreneur in Africa, having founded ZOL in 1995 and grown it into the largest ISP in Zimbabwe. He joined Liquid Telecom in January 2012 through acquisition. As Chief Product Officer, David has a wide-reaching role leading our current and future product portfolio across all group companies, covering retail, enterprise and wholesale segments and ensuring we remain competitive in a rapidly changing industry. His team keeps us creating sustainable value for our customers by solving their biggest telecommunication challenges through innovative products and solutions.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, David has a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Bristol, focusing on telecommunications and computer science. He returned to Zimbabwe to run ZOL full time, before spending seven years living and studying in the USA, where he received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently lives in London with his son and Norwegian wife Julie.
Shahzad Manzoor, Group Chief Network Architect
Shahzad Manzoor Khan joined Liquid Telecom in 2006. He is responsible for the overall Network Design and Architecture for the group. He is also responsible for new product design, services and network deployment across Africa.
After receiving his master's degree in computer science he worked for companies like Cisco Systems, BT and Telephony.com. Shahzad has over fifteen years of experience in IP, Data, Satellite and Wireless technologies. In the last eight years at Liquid Telecom he worked on numerous innovative projects including GPON, DWDM, IP Backhaul and LTE.
Raoul du Plessis, CIO
Raoul is responsible for systems implementation and the running of our entire infrastructure, including servers, communications and V-Sat networking. His varied career in IT spans over 20 years. Raoul has a diversity of experience in a number of roles including university lecturer in IT, software development manager, IT development manager and IT architect.
Ramzi Shalak, Chief International Networks
Ramzi joined Liquid Telecom in February 2005 as a network engineer. He is currently responsible for cross-border voice and data operations across the Liquid group.
Having graduated in 1999 from Sydney University with a Bachelors of Telecommunications Engineering, Ramzi proceeded to work as a Switch Engineer for one of the largest national carriers in Australia. In 2001, Ramzi migrated to England to take up a post at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Bristol. He worked in their IT and Telecom services team over a two year period. In 2003, he returned to Australia and gained a scholarship to enrol on a Telecommunications Masters program. And, in 2005, after being awarded a highly skilled migrant visa, he returned to England on a permanent basis.
David Eurin, Chief Strategy Officer
David Eurin joined Liquid Telecom in 2013. He is responsible for leading the formulation of the commercial strategy in his role as Group Chief Strategy Officer. Prior to Liquid he was a Partner and Head of Africa at Analysys Mason, a management consultancy specialising in TMT. David has extensive experience in the fixed and mobile telecommunications industry, gained in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa where he advised senior management teams on strategic, regulatory, financial and commercial issues. He has a MBA from the Collège des Ingénieurs (France), a MSc from the University of British Columbia (Canada), as well as an engineering degree from ParisTech (France). David was born in France and now lives in London.
Keith Rowley, Chief of Infrastructure Design & Planning
Keith joined Liquid Telecom in June 2013 and is responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of network design, specifications, inventory capture and planning of the passive network infrastructure across the group.
He brings over 18 years' practical and theoretical technical experience within the telecommunications Industry, specialising in the design, delivery and operations of bespoke and complex optical fibre based network implementations, with a particular focus in his more recent years on low latency finance trading platforms. He has worked for some of the largest infrastructure operators within the European and US markets, including Level 3 Communications, Colt Telecommunications and euNetworks. He regularly travels globally in order to keep Liquid Telecom's growing networks up-to-date with developed and emerging technologies. He lives in Dubai, UAE, with his wife and son.
Willem Marais, Group Managing Executive
Willem Marais joined Liquid Telecom in May 2015 and brings over 20 years' of experience and expertise in the Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media industries.
Prior to joining Liquid Telecom, Willem held the position of Chief Commercial Officer at SEACOM, responsible for group revenue across all lines of business where he lead the Sales, Product, Marketing and Commercial teams responsible for customer engagement and strategic channel development, globally. He also spent 10 years with the Siemens Group of companies.
Willem has a proven track record in the development of long-term customer partnerships and leading negotiations on multi-million dollar transactions in the USA, Europe, Middle East and Africa, within the Telecommunications, ICT, Broadcasting and Financial Services sectors.
