Liquid Telecom solutions for GSM backhaul over satellite enable cell sites to be installed in regions where no infrastructure currently exists, such as in developing countries. We provide solutions and bandwidth to enable GSM operators to extend their Radio Access Network using satellite transmission, and to enable international and inter MSC switching via the use of a VoIP SoftSwitch.
We provide:
Bandwidth - We have contracted 144 MHz on Eutelsat and have good relations with other satellite operators to obtain more bandwidth at reasonable prices for customers needs.
Uplink facility - A state of the art teleport facility near London to provide international voice and tier 1 IP backbone connection as well as remote M & C capabilities.
Local knowledge - We are based in London with experience of providing satellite solutions in developing countries. Our parent company has experience of implementing and running GSM solutions.
Technology - Experience of integrating and operating the latest in Satellite equipment, VoIP gateways and SoftSwitch, SS7oIP equipment, routers and IP switching equipment.
Which offers GSM operators:
The ability to open new sites quickly in areas where no terrestrial infrastructure is present
Cost effective expandability by using the available satellite bandwidth in the best possible way via aggregation and compression
Global access to international carriers and roaming partners for profitable SMS, roaming and inbound and outbound international calling services
Increased profitability by offering high quality IP based services
Network Example
We provide a full solution for GSM operators using two whole satellite transponders. Large 9.3m Antennas are situated at the hub/switching sites with smaller antennas at the base station sites. Uncompressed 2 Mb duplex E1s link up the base station sites using satellite modems with modern coding/modulation capabilities to maximise precious satellite space segment. Compression of the Abis channel can also be achieved for cell sites with more than one E1 line.
Between switching sites VoIP gateways are employed to enable compression of voice channels up to 12:1 whilst retaining high voice quality. These are controlled by a SoftSwitch to enable intelligent routing capabilities. Own network, national, and international traffic are switched in the VoIP system, thus reducing latency associated with double hops, and offering improved quality via rerouting facilities. SS7/IP gateways also move the SS7 transmission between switching sites and international roaming partners into the IP core thus aggregating the bandwidth and offering redundancy. Additionally IP connections from the switching sites to the www tier 1 backbone allow the possibility to offer enhanced IP services to subscribers via dial-up and GPRS for increased profits.
